Grassroot Grants

Grassroots Grants is funded by the Office of the Third Sector. It is a three-year scheme to March 2011.

The grants are intended to benefit the community, so can be very wide ranging, including the purchase of equipment such as computers, a local community event, small-scale training and staffing costs, local community activities and rent and running costs.

The organisation was originally established as WHEAT Agro-Industrial Research and Consultancy Trust in 1995 to alleviate poverty in the Horn of Africa. WHEAT stands for Water, Health, Education, Agriculture and Transport, essential sectors of survival needs. The symbol of Wheat, a green crop in supportive hands, epitomises not only economic growth but human development in all aspects of live. WHEAT's initial involvement in the projects of the above major sectors of development was limited in areas of research, training, workshops, consultancy and fundraising.
