Royal Association for Deaf people – BMER (Black, Minority Ethnic and Refugee) Project
The Royal Association for Deaf people has received funding from London Councils to set up a new project specifically for London’s Deaf BMER population.
The project provides free advocacy support and advice to Deaf BMER clients delivered by experienced advocates whose first language is British Sign Language (BSL). Free monthly workshops will also be held at a central London location (delivered in BSL) covering topics such as marriage and divorce, employment law and tax credits. The aim of the project is to empower Deaf BMER people to achieve independence by providing access to information and services.
A referral form can be found at: www.royaldeaf.org.uk ; (‘ethnic service’ link, then ‘contact us’) Referrals can be made individually or on behalf of another.
If you would like further information about the project, please email Natalie bmeradvocacy@royaldeaf.org.uk .
