NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme Outreach In Newham
Bowel cancer is the third most common cancer in the UK and the second most common cause of cancer deaths. If caught early, bowel cancer is incredibly treatable.
NHS Newham is interested in working with community centres and places of worship in Newham to promote awareness of bowel cancer and to encourage people to use the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.
The NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme aims to detect bowel cancer early encouraging men and women aged 60+ to complete a test kit that detects tiny amounts of blood which cannot normally be seen in the bowel motions. Unfortunately uptake of the screening programme in Newham is very low and we aim to provide people with as many avenues as possible to access information about bowel cancer and to understand the benefits of participating in the screening programme.
We are interested in working with organisations to promote this screening programme through workshops and health information stalls. If you are interested, please contact Leena Khagram on 07917 554 352 or alternatively you may email leena.khagram@homerton.nhs.uk
