Bring & Fix Event in Stratford

We are holding a ‘Bring and Fix’ event on 27 May 2012 and would be delighted if you would agree to be one of our “Fixers”.
Bring & Fix is a new intergenerational fair that brings together local people of different ages to share their skills and knowledge – to help each other and have fun while doing so. It is an event where individuals (fixers) ‘fix’ small things for other people, seek and provide advice and come up with solutions. Bring & Fix events encourage anyone to get involved and bring what they know and can do for others, to repair and recycle instead of throwing away. The event is an ideal occasion for building good community spirit.
The event is free. Although you will not be able to charge for anything that you fix, it will be an opportunity to showcase your services and your business. We would be happy for you to distribute your business cards and leaflets.
The event will be held at :
Rokeby Community Centre, 63 Rokeby Street, Stratford, London E15 3NS.
It starts at 1pm and ends at 5pm for the public. Fixers would be expected to arrive by 10.45am to get ready. There will be ample on-street parking.
We (NUSHO Stratford Time bank) are running this event in partnership with Newham’s Community Links. As well as ensuring that everyone experiences a really enjoyable time, we aim to attract people to the Stratford Time Bank and volunteers for Community Links. Your participation as a Fixer will be crucial to our aim.
Please could you indicate whether or not you could assist us and if so, what you could ‘fix’. Ideas for potential fixers are as follows:
1. Make alterations to clothes
2. Provide tips on make-up and hair skills
3. Fix and repair old jewellery

Please contact me as soon as possible on 07432705828 to discuss what you would like to do and what you would require to do so. My colleagues and I look forward to speaking with you soon. Thank you in advance.

These training sessions are worth £200 each but are FREE for volunteers working across London. The details are as follows:

Course 1, Understanding Health Improvement – 18th July, 9:30AM to 5:00PM
This course is designed specifically for those who volunteer in their community. It provides knowledge and understanding of the benefits of good health and well being, and also examines the barriers which prevent a change in lifestyle.
Please note at the end of the session there is an optional exam which leads to a national qualification.
There is more information in the attached flyer UHI flyer-18 July 2012-FINAL

Course 2, Influencing Behaviour Change – 25th July, 9:30AM to 5:00PM
This course is an ideal follow up to Understanding Health Improvement. You will learn how to develop practical skills to support others to become more healthy and active.
Changing habits can take time, effort and plenty of encouragement. Through this course you will learn why people find it difficult to change their behaviour, the best ways to open up communication and new ideas on how to motivate others.

Please note that these courses complement each other and volunteers can enrol for either programme or both of them. They must be volunteering in London and their status as a volunteer will need to be supported by your volunteer co-ordinator or volunteer manager when they make an application to enrol on a course.
Both training courses will be hosted at John Snow House, 59 Mansell Street, London E1 8AN.To learn more or request an application form please direct them to me on 020 72657 322 or email naraujo@rsph.org.uk.

The closing date for applications is 29 June 2012.
