Multi Faith Action Plan to Address Social Challenges

Multi faith conference, November 30th, Stratford Town Hall

Newham Voluntary Sector Consortium (NVSC) is not-for-profit umbrella organisation working in Newham. One of our key objectives is to encourage and facilitate the involvement of voluntary, faith and community groups in some of Newhams key decision making process undertaken by local government.

On Tuesday November 30th Newham Voluntary Sector Consortium will be hosting a multi-faith conference at Stratford Town Hall. The aim of the day will be to develop a Faith Action Plan that will establish ways of addressing some of social challenges facing Newham. The Action Plan will then be submitted to the Civic Partnership responsible for the allocation of £32m of Neighbourhood Renewal Funds.

The conference will be one of the largest multi faith events held in the borough and will have a significant impact on how the Faith Sector as a whole, participates in local democracy.

Delegates have the opportunity to participate in workshops focusing on social issues such as health, education, women and faith, youth culture and the arts.

Financial Secretary to the Treasury and MP for East Ham Stephen Timms will be our keynote speaker kicking off the evening session at 6pm.

The day is conveniently divided into two, giving Delegates the opportunity to either attend the afternoon or evening session or both if time permits.

The day starts at 1pm with a buffet lunch, followed by 4 short addresses by Christian, Muslim, Sikh and Hindu representatives. Delegates will then be invited to participate in the workshops, with feedback being made during the plenary.

A similar format takes place in the evening, and will conclude with an evening meal.

An eclectic mix of musical entertainment by some of Newham’s faith groups will provide an enjoyable back drop for refreshments and networking throughout the day.
